VR EVENT APP: ARCHER

This was our in-house production. Thanks to this project, we were able to let our imagination run wild, at the same time creating a metaphor for one of the most important principles of our business – always to hit the mark in terms of needs and expectations.

Business value

Hitting the bull’s-eye

The application has had a significant contribution to the creation of our knowledge base. It also makes it possible to demonstrate to a potential client the various possibilities that VR technology offers. For developers, it is an important step in self-development and teaches them the Agile methodology.

Challenge

Way for the future projects

Creating VR event apps and testing interesting solutions offered by virtual reality is an important element of building a knowledge base and know-how for future projects. We wanted to create a dynamic multiplatform game and application.

This is one of our first projects that have been created for VR devices. We decided that a shooting competition in VR would be a great opportunity to test the possibilities offered by virtual reality in the first phase of its development. It was not only about the gameplay itself, but also about the ways of building the immersion and proper design of the UI and UX.

We also tested the performance of devices and solved typical problems that appeared during development, such as navigation, control or problems with the labyrinth.

Scope

We created a VR event app with nice graphics that met the initial requirements. The user plays as an archer who has the ability to shoot at different targets. The shooting mechanics is adapted to VR capabilities and the app uses realistic physics. The gameplay has a limited time, and its goal is to collect as many points as possible. By aiming, the user is given the ability to precisely zero in on the target (the camera zooms in).

The game’s simple design means it works with uncomplicated devices like Google Cardboard as well as some more advanced ones like Samsung Gear VR. It does not require any external controllers.

Process

Due to limited time, we worked in short sprints (a few hours each), focusing on the most important features of the application. All emerging problems were discussed and resolved ad hoc. Where necessary, we used the extreme programming method to speed up the work. It is easy to notice that such events are also conducive to learning about and testing the agile project management methods.

Service

Our internal events are the time when we create applications that allow us to better understand a given area or issues that may appear. Our programmers and graphic designers are involved in our internal ‘hackathons’ together with people who want to learn about new technology. This is the time for self-development and the creation of a product that represents real value for the company.

Collaboration

When designing a game or program, we focus on a specific problem we want to solve. Working in multidisciplinary teams, we go through all stages of development. A concept is created which later becomes subject to discussion and estimation. Next, we create a GDD (Game Design Doc), write out the bands and start the development.

Everything is given in advance, and the time is limited. This archer VR event app was a great choice as it allowed for a great commitment of the entire team.

Technology stack

More strings to your bow

Our team of developers created the application in Unity 3D. To design the graphics, we used programs such as Maya and 3ds Max.

The app is intended for VR standalone devices.
